How do you interact with Facility Managers?
My role at RestoreCore allows me to be engaged with facilities managers before, during, and after property damage occurs.  I spend time with facilities managers long before a disaster happens and learn about the inner workings of their buildings while helping create plans for possible future events.  Should they experience an issue I help them navigate it.  From initial response through an ultimate resolution.

Tell us about a favorite project related to working with a Facility Manager.
I perform site surveys at buildings when we install our disaster planning program, SecureCore.  This allows me a “back of the house” tour side by side with the facilities team.  This might be the best part of my job.  It’s not just the education that I get but also the pride that facilities people have in the way they maintain their buildings.  Once, while presenting the information gathered at a particular building, a riser burst.  Right in the middle of the meeting.  We got a firsthand look at our disaster implementation in practice and how we can play a very real role in reducing the damage.

What is your greatest success story related to working with Facility Managers?
We had a large water damage project come in overnight on a Friday.  I was one of the initial respondents along with a team of our technicians.  There was a sprinkler burst on the 10th floor that affected the entire building from there down.  We were completely without power.  We worked around the clock throughout the weekend to stabilize and dry the building.  We hauled drying equipment up stairwells without having the luxury of elevators.  We also brought in temporary power via tractor trailer and worked with a team of electricians to get electricity up to the floors to power our equipment.

Tell us about a challenge or obstacle that you faced working with a facilities manager and how you overcame it.
More often than not, we are working with our clients on a bad day, if not their worst day.  The types of disaster scenarios that we’re responding to can be devastating.  So, given the nature of our services, there is theoretically an “obstacle” on every job.  But I have been lucky enough to be part of internal committees here at RestoreCore who are tasked with writing protocols that are designed to navigate these difficult times for facilities managers.  These have included customer service and empathy trainings.  It’s extremely rewarding to get a good review from a client who just experienced some tragic event.
