I have been in the industry for 9 years, with Interface for the last 3. I started my career at Universal Forest products selling engineered roof trusses and floor joists, which lead me in the direction of the flooring industry. I joined Interface because they have a great moral standing on how they treat their employees and their trend setting ways on Sustainability. In 2008 I married my wife Kelly who I met in Philadelphia. Together we are proud parents, though Grant is our only child he keeps us very busy with Baseball, golf, swimming, and basketball. I am a proud Husband and father; family is number one in my life. When I am not busy at work I am always involved in some activity, or adventure with family.
How do you interact with Facility Managers?
I have always enjoyed working with end-users. One of the things I think I do a good job of is fitting the end user with a specific solution to their need. That has made facilities managers understand my focus is on completely on their wellbeing. I have had the opportunity to work with many FMs over the years.
Tell us about a favorite project related to working with a Facility Manager.
It is very tough to pinpoint one favorite project. But I would probably say the renovation of a Higher Education visitation center for one my long time Clients. It was a total team effort on interface and my part to custom carpet as well as coordinate LVT to fit their desired scheme.
What is your greatest success story related to working with Facility Managers?
A few years back when I had just started with Interface I came across and opportunity with a mid-size University. I was able to make a connection with the facilities director at a networking event. From there we had several meetings on how interface can assist with not only their carpet/LVT need but also meet all their requirement on sustainability. Now they are one of my best clients and continue to use us.
Tell us about a challenge or obstacle that you faced working with a facilities Manager and how you overcame it.
In this industry I think no matter the situation or client we always try to plan out what the obstacles might be. However, when I first came onto the interface team, I came across a situation with a facilities team with a very tight budget, an even tighter timeline, and scheme that would prove difficult to meet at the budget they were asking for. With the help of our internal design team, our production team, and strategic customs of carpet we were able to provide them a biophilic design under budget and on time.
What is something that most people do not know about you?
Though I am a husband and a father, what most people don’t know is that the majority of my family live in the area. We Danbury’s love any excuse to get together for example Thanksgiving usually results in 70+ of us getting together to share our thanks.
What learning experience would you pass onto future FM’s?
I have always worked for facilities managers as a service provider, I recommend that when we are able to work closely together, we are able to become more responsive to their needs. When we can become a valued partner, we can become an extension of their team. When unexpected issue arises, this relationship allows us to move quickly to make things happen for the facilities manager. This goes back to having long lasting relationships with customers. In short it means understanding our customer and delivering on service.
