  • Where do you attend school and why did you choose to pursue a Facility Management degree?

I graduated with a B.S. in Facilities Management at Temple University and I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in Architecture at the same university. I chose to pursue a FM degree because I saw that FM brought more opportunities in further developing my skills and knowledge in both the FM and Architecture field. It combined design, planning and business all together, and it gives you a whole new perspective of the consequences decisions can make when designing, renovating or running a building.

  • What is your favorite Facility Management subject in school

My favorite Fm subject in school was probably the classes that involved planning and designing. Those classes were Project Planning & Programming, and the FM Capstone research. Under these classes, I was able to learn to recognize issues and how to address them through proper observation, research and planning, and how those decisions affect the overall project.

  • Tell us about a favorite project, either school or work related

One of my favorite projects was an observation research project for my Research & Methods for FM class. For this project, I observed students behaviors and how they used the space throughout the day. Factors included how weather and time of day affects the usage of the space. Another factor that plays an important role in people’s behavior in a space are the physical traces left behind which can affect the overall circulation of the space. It was a fun project because I got to observe people’s movement and behaviors based on obstacles that were presented at the moment.

  • What is your greatest success story?

My greatest success story would probably be accomplishing my goals in every step of the way. As well as, to be able to face and set new challenges that allows me to grow and experience something new. Exploring the many opportunities that were given to me, I was able to graduate with a B.S. in FM, continuing my studies for architecture, and continue to work under FIRM – Facilities Information & Resource Management Department at Temple University Facilities Management. And with the help and support from the FM community and Temple University; I’ve gotten the opportunity to meet professionals and young professionals in the field. Through all these experiences, I am always learning something new and improving my skill sets.

  • Tell us about a challenge or obstacle that you faced related to your Facilities education and how you overcame it.

One of my biggest challenges was probably communicating with others in a group project. Communication plays a big role in the FM field, and working in group projects can be challenging at times. As I worked more and more in groups, I learned to understand that what makes sense to me might not make sense to others; what can be common sense to someone might not be so for another person. To overcome it, I learned to express when I do not understand something to prevent misunderstandings and to make sure everyone in the group is on the same page about the project goals, roles, process and deadlines.

  • What is something that most people do not know about you?

One of my biggest goals is to travel all over the world, with the opportunity to learn more about each country’s culture, food, and architecture.

  • What learning experience would you pass onto future FM Students?

Be always open to learn new things and don’t let any obstacles stop you from doing what you like. There are so many opportunities that FM can offer, you never know what your passion is within the FM field if you are not open to learning new things everyday and face the challenges that come to you. You are always capable of more if you try. And take advantage of the many resources IFMA provides.

  • What is your goal upon graduation?

My goal upon graduation is to work at a company that has the same values as me and where I could grow and further my knowledge and skill sets. As well as being more involved in the FM community through IFMA and IFMA Greater Philadelphia chapter who has always welcomed and supported me throughout my years in college.
