How do you interact with Facility Managers?
I have worked with FM’s in the Tri-State area my entire career 30+ years and my goal has always been to provide solutions that make their lives easier while adding value to their facilities.
Tell us about a favorite project related to working with a Facility Manager.
A 17,000SF Roof Replacement with a fully functional Vegetated “Green” Roof with irrigation, this project was for one of our healthcare clients.
What is your greatest success story related to working with Facility Managers?
Any time we can solve a problem, large or small that no one else has been able to solve.
Tell us about a challenge or obstacle that you faced working with a facilities Manager and how you overcame it.
Wow, that a tough one because there are challenges with all construction projects but one in particular comes to mind, I had a 15,000 SF roof replacement project that also had areas of deteriorated Lightweight Insulated Concrete Deck (LWIC) that had to be repaired for a manufacturing client, the roof was over a “Clean Room” (Very sensitive, no dust or loose debris could enter into the space,) to make matters more challenging, we could only work on weekends from Friday at 6PM until 11:30 PM on Sunday. Solution: 1. Install interior protection with high reach equipment every Friday at 6PM, this would typically take 4-5 Hr. 2. Remove existing roofing, repair decking, install temporary roof to ensure water tightness, remove temporary interior protection vacuum and clean space of any debris Sunday so the client could resume production Monday at 8AM, (Repeat process for the next (7) weekends.)
What is something that most people do not know about you?
That I love to cook and make a great Manhattan!
What learning experience would you pass onto future FM’s?
Identify quality vendors that have a proven history of results and build strong relationships with them.
